A Touching Sight to Behold: Processions with the Cardinal in Mexico
The Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City is a processional church. The faithful pack the aisles. Meanwhile, the people gently reach out to touch the garments and to receive the blessing of the Metropolitan as he processes in and out. He patiently walks among them while making time for each and is in no rush. On my journeys I have only seen this in Mexico. It was a lovely sight to behold. The poor in the aisles reaching out to him; the procession is slow and the entrance is long. Mexican Catholicism is very sentimental, prompted by feelings of tenderness and it brings to mind the words of Christ in the Gospel: "I tell you truthfully, the man who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a child, will never enter into it." And so "He embraced them, laid his hands upon them, and blessed them." -Mark 10:16
