Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, USA

Located on the upper reaches of the Mississippi River, father of streams, you see this hallowed temple. 

Truly, a must see and without doubt one of the most beautiful places of worship on the North American continent.   

The altars were consecrated during the Ninth National Eucharistic Congress, June 23-26, 1941.  The church and baldachin were decorated in yellow and white bunting on that festive occasion. 

Minneapolis is a special place and a modern city founded by a priest.  The sister village to St. Paul, first named for St. Anthony and now part of the City of Minneapolis, had its origin in a settlement near the Falls discovered by Fr. Hennepin in 1680.  The basilica is located in the same downtown area.   

The nascent church in Minneapolis grew and God has blessed it with great Catholic leaders.  A few modern saints were born here: Fr. Paul Marx, OSB, founder of the international pro-life movement, Fr. John Zuhlsdorf, pioneer of Catholic Internet media and Fr. John Berg, FSSP, superior general of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter.
