The English word nepotism comes from the Italian word nipote which means "nephew."

  4. We don't get "nepotism" through Italian though! The english word derives from the Latin (which is where Italian and other Romance languages get their equivalents too) for nephew or grandson, NEPOS (genetive NEPOTIS), masculine noun.
